3 of the World's Cheapest Places to Live and Work Remotely

Southeast Asia attracts the most digital nomads because it has some of the cheapest places to live in the world. People are attracted to the low cost of living and warm climate. Thailand, in particular, is a popular destination with Chiang Mai and Bangkok as some of the most attractive and inexpensive. Many nomads also prefer the islands of Thailand and other countries in the area because here you can literally work from the beach. The number of digital nomad-friendly cities around the world is growing. However, most of them with a total cost of living under $1000 per month are in Southeast Asia. Chiang Mai is most famous for its low cost and here we will add three more destinations that are worth checking out.

Ubud, Bali

Ubud is growing even more popular with digital nomads than Chiang Mai. It is right outside Bali and is a tropical paradise with a very affordable cost of living. You can get comfortably by with about $1000 per month. Ubud is growing more connected as more nomads are favoring it. Most house rentals come with good WiFi and you can find many cafés that offer free internet, although not at great speeds. Coworking spaces like Hubud, the Onion Collective, and Outpost are affordable and well equipped. Ubud is a major yoga destination and you can find several classes per day that are in beautiful settings, often overlooking rice fields. It is a very peaceful community and you can find everything you need in close proximity including delicious, inexpensive local food.

Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon), Vietnam

Saigon is a Vietnamese city where you can live comfortably for about $1000 per month. The city is well connected with fast internet speeds in cafés and rentals and a good transportations system. Finding a room to rent is easy here. Rooms often come furnished with maid service and usually decent internet for as low as $300 per month. There are plentiful cafés and coworking spaces at affordable rates. Good and inexpensive food is plentiful. Saigon hosts a vibrant community of nomad entrepreneurs attracted to the city because of the low cost of living. The weather gets very hot in the summer, but that is expected for the region and the beach is not far off.

Taipei, Taiwan

Taiwan is a very modern and progressive Southeastern Asian country. The island nation’s infrastructure is well organized and transportation is reliable. Taipei enjoys very good connectivity and reliable internet speeds. The city is safe and well organized, hosting a range of places that welcome digital nomads and comfortable working spaces at very affordable rates. Accommodation is also very affordable. Overall you can live comfortably here for about $1000 per month. The city offers a range of good food, nightlife, culture, arts and a very metropolitan feeling. It is also one the nomad centers with the most favorable weather, with a mild subtropical climate.
